The Glory of the Lord….
“Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship him…lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy” (Matthew 2: 2; 9-10).
Christ’s star was predicted long before it appeared. Numbers 24:17 says, “There shall come a star out of Jacob”. It is possible that it was a luminous meteor such as the ones that occurred tonight, which the wise men saw, and directed them to Jerusalem. It is also possible that the same thing is meant which is mentioned in Luke 2:9. “The glory of the Lord shone round about them”. Meteors showers are very akin to a firework display, but differ in that they are much larger, last longer and are far more grand because they are designed by God, Himself. Can you imagine what it would have looked like if a meteor shower had been the luminous event that brightened the night sky around the nativity. We generally imagine one lone star blazing down from the heavens, streaming rays of Gods glory over the Christ child. However, what if the event was slightly different. What if the triad was perfectly framed by the most brilliant of meteor showers? It would have been quite a different scene…. but extremely glorious as well as breath taking. Although, very hard to replicate in one’s home on the mantle or tabletop…All kidding aside, having Christ’s birth announced by angels and heralded by a meteor shower, seems very much like the fingerprint of God. He is far greater and more mysterious than I… we imagine…
I do not know how God chose to demonstrate the the birth of Christ, God swaddled in human flesh. It is a mystery. I suppose we will not know until we ask Christ for ourselves. However, I do know that during Advent, we have been given a gift. God has chosen to display His glory in the night sky tonight and more importantly, through his Son, Jesus Christ. Is God is speaking to you… Are you looking for Him? Do you hear Him call? He is saying to you…
“Wake up and rub the slumber from your eyes, My child. Behold My Glory. My Son, born of flesh, lived loving you, and died bringing you back to Me. He can take the darkness and hopelessness you feel and give you light, peace, hope and love.” Will you receive it?
