SEVEN DAYS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD – Day 7
Day 7: Saturday: The Last Supper
Key verse
“Then came the day of matzah and the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Now Yeshua sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so we may eat… When the hour came, Yeshua reclined at table, and the emissaries with Him. And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will never it eat again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God” (Luke 22:7-8; 14-16, TLV).
Christ discloses His earnest desire for the last hour of calm before going out into the storm of the Garden, the trials, and the cross. This desire tenderly demonstrates His brotherhood to humankind, by treasuring the last sweet, sad moments of being together. But His desire was not for Himself only. He wished to partake of that Passover, and then to transform it forever, leaving a new rite to His servants. The Passover, a memorial of deliverance that made a mob of slaves into a nation is transfigured by Jesus, who calls upon Jew and Gentile to forget the venerable meaning of the rite and remember instead His work for all humankind. The body and the blood are symbolic of the death and sacrifice of Christ. And the only true life for our spirits comes from participation in His death and thereby in His life.
Today’s Prayer
Courageous Lord Jesus, thank You for the sacrifice of Your death. Thank you that You have given us a rite for the ages, that will help us to remember Your work. Forgive us for how we forget You and the ways of Your kingdom. Cleanse us, mold us, and keep us faithful so that we will remember that You set us free from the bondage of sin. Thank you for loving us despite our weaknesses and frailty. Lift our weak hands and feeble knees. And make straight the paths for our feet, so that what is lame will not be pulled out of joint but rather be healed (Hebrews 12:12-13) so that we will be faithful to Your will. In Christ’s precious and holy name, we pray. Amen.
Additional Prayers:
- Pray for our congregation to remember Christ and stay faithful to His will.
- Pray for congregation when there is doubt.
- Pray for our feet to run on straight paths toward the living Savior.
- Pray for families to make alters of prayer, praise, and worship while we cloister together in our homes.
