SEVEN DAYS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD – Day 6 Good Friday

Day 6: The Good of Golgotha

Key verses

Then they took Yeshua. He went out, carrying His own crossbar, to the Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on each side and Yeshua in between. Pilate also wrote a sign and put it on the execution stake. It was written, “YESHUA HA-NATZRATI, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Many Judeans read this sign, because the place where Yeshua was executed was near the city; it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek (John 19:17-20, TLV)

John alone tells us that it was Pilate’s malicious idea to inflame the Sanhedrin by giving Jesus a title at Golgotha. And yet, what Pilate meant as a bitter jest, was indeed, fact. He had the sign written in three languages, that is, Hebrew-the national tongue, Greek-the common language, and Latin-the official Roman intercourse. Ironically, what Pilate did not realize was that he was proclaiming the universal dominion of Jesus, Creator of all things (John 1:3) and prophesying that wisdom as represented by Greece, law and imperial power as represented by Rome, and all previous revelation as represented by Israel, would yet bow before the Crucified, and recognize that His Cross was His throne.

Today’s Prayer

Living and Majestic God and Father of our Lord Christ, King of all, thank You for the goodness that You demonstrated at Golgotha. We don’t usually think of this ugly, barren hill as a good place.
