SEVEN DAYS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD – Day 3
Day 3 Tuesday: Christ’s Trial
Key Verses:
“Now Yeshua stood before the governor. The governor questioned Him, saying, ‘Are You the King of the Jews?’ ‘You say so,’ Yeshua said. And while He was accused by the ruling kohanim and elders, He did not answer. Then Pilate said to Him, ‘Don’t You hear how many things they testify against you?’ Yeshua did not answer, not even one word, so the governor was greatly amazed” (Matthew 27:11-14, TLV).
Have you ever wondered why Jesus didn’t defend Himself during this illegal trial before Pilate? Was He showing us a universal way to respond during unjust accusations in a criminal court? No, I think not. This situation is unique because Jesus is unique, and His purpose and passion were unique. Jesus’ silence is consistent with His commitment and desire to die for you and I. He loves us and He loves the Father. Remember, Jesus had already been to the Garden and wrestled with the temptations. Furthermore, He was determined that He would not do anything that would spare Him from the torture and death in which He would have to endure to release us from the bondage and condemnation of sin. Consequently, when you think of the silence of the Lord, think of how much God is committed to you and taste and see His goodness (Psalms 34:8) and rejoice.
