I Want A ‘Do-Over!’
I am so thankful that God is a ‘Do-over’ God.
His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3: 22-23) …If my people will humble themselves I will forgive (2 Chronicles 7: 14) … He will throw our sins as far as the east is to the west (Psalms 103: 11-13)… I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you (Isaiah 43:25).
God forgives for His own sake, not because we have earned it or deserve it. We have no power over God to compel Him to forgive. God forgives solely to demonstrate His glory, His perfection, His greatness, His love, His compassion. God is a ‘Do-over’ God. Repentance always, always brings forgiveness.
There is always an opportunity to start anew – God always offers us a new day, a new dawn, a new year, no matter what has gone before. God waits. He waits for us to ask His forgiveness for where we have failed, times we have caused hurt or shame, and in the ways we have become dirty and need cleansing. God waits for us to want – to ask for a ‘Do-over’. Why not take a moment to ask His forgiveness and to dedicate ourselves to Him afresh.
Lord, You make all things new
You bring hope alive in our hearts
And cause our Spirits to be born again.
Thank you for this New Year
For all the potential it holds.
Come and kindle in us
A mighty flame
So that in our time, many will see the wonders of God
And live forever to praise Your glorious name. Amen
