Awaken Us!
The election is over…
Yes, the distraction is over. But many are wondering about the results…the future… their futures and what does it mean? Maybe, there are those who are even questioning, “Is God sovereign? Is He still omnipotent, omniscient, sitting on the throne in heaven with an outstretched arm ready for rescue?”
I am no prophet but I do believe God has a message for us, Christ-Followers, His church.
1Corinthians 15:34 “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame”.
Some of us, myself included, have been given a reproof, and a sharp one, at that! In this verse we are to awake… slapped from the deep state of REM sleep…shaken from a drunken stupor, if you will, and called to attend to righteousness…
God is calling us to awaken to Him…His rightness. What is God’s rightness? We are called to get busy with God’s business of rescuing people… living a life that draws people to God. God wants all people to know Him. But we, even Christ-Followers negate the commands and mandates and act as if we have not the knowledge of God. Our inaction and rebellious behavior flatly accuse us that we don’t know God or believe He is omnipotent. Nor do we behave as if there is a future life and a resurrection and therefore, do not tell others of Him. We live as we please and it is to our shame. It is a shame that we don’t acknowledge Gods holy nature, His government, His rightness but most notably, we are so wretchedly ignorant of the matters that so dearly concern him?
Unfortunately, this is not the end of the rebuke or the extent of our shame… no far from it. I think these words have a much stronger meaning. There are people among us… all around us… and in the world who do not know God and live in darkness and we do nothing! They have never heard about God or His mission of rescue. This is the true scandal and shame of the Church. For the most part, we as Christs’ army have gone A.W.O.L. (absent without leave), preferring to live on holiday instead of surrendering ourselves to Your call to the work and the battle. When was the last time I talked about Christ? When was the last time I stayed up all night to pray for those who have no earthly means to hear God’s story? When did I sacrifice a meal or my income to ensure someone had a copy of Gods’ word? And I suspect, I am not alone in this…
It is time… We must awake… Arise Church, God calls!
Please Lord Jesus… Quicken us to Your nature, Your will, Your business. Awaken us from slumber, distraction and disobedience to Your rightness. Awaken me and Your church by giving us a new heart of obedience and commitment. Help us to see You, Lord Jesus our one and only as the founder and perfecter of our faith and who for the joy set before You endured the cross, despising the shame, and are now seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Break MY heart for those in need of Your rescue. Give us Your heart, a new one that is soft and tender for people. Make us alive again in You, now and after the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:22) In all these things, we ask….
