ADVENT WEEK 1: John 1:14
The Word Became Flesh…
Before anything was, God was.
God then decided to fashion companions for Himself. He didn’t want puppets or slaves, so He created His people with a free will. Free will is the power to choose whatever, whenever for good or evil. He also knew that His creation having a fallible nature, would choose not the good, like Himself, but evil.
And in this foreknowledge, God determinedly created humanity fully cognizant that humans were doomed by the weakness of self will. What would become of His companions, now too flawed to be in relation with a holy God.
Yet, God had a plan. Rather than creating a savior to redeem His companions, He became “the rescue”. God became their Savior. This was God’s plan from the beginning of time.
This rescue is confusing to us. Why would God willingly sacrifice Himself taking on the form of man, to save us, His creation? It is because He is goodness, compassion, mercy, and love. He longs for His companions to turn back to Him, regardless of the cost to Himself. According to God, we are worth it.
“And the word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen His glory, the glory as of the Father’s son, full of grace and truth (John 1:14)”.
